Please note, the 3 methods introduced in this guide apply to media sound and Google assistant. If you want to adjust the volume for alarms and timers, you have to use the Google Home app, as explained in this guide. Google Nest cameras and doorbells let you know what’s happening nearby. Tap on each routine and verify if any of them is changing media volume. Tap on the settings icon next to Adjust media volume to change the volume or uncheck it if you don’t want to use it. If your Google Home speaker increases the volume only for alarms and timers, it’s because there is a separate setting to control their volume.

However, you should know the proper commands. Hopefully, Google will add the option. Actually the volume of Google assistant voice follows the device settings. But the reference volume may be slightly higher.

With this feature, you can connect multiple Nest/Home devices together and play media on them. Upon enabling this feature, the device reduces the volume, becomes less sensitive to commands, and also limits the notifications. Another cool trick that you can try within the Routines menu is to add an Action to set the volume to your desired level. This step is also applicable vice-versa, meaning you can switch the network to the lower band if you have issues with the higher bandwidth network.
Select Microphone, then tap the switch to turn it on or off. If you have more than one Nest camera, you can turn each camera’s microphone on and off independently. When the microphone is off, audio is not streamed or recorded. First, make sure that both your smart device and Google Home are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Then, check if both are linked to the same Google account.
Why do I have black screens on my Nest Hub?
As the name suggests, it’s useful during the night when you don’t want to disturb others. Let’s Update Apps
So, if you are using it as Bluetooth speaker, this might be one of the reasons for the volume issues. That might sound weird to you, but some Google Home users have reported that changing the location of the smart speaker fixed the issue for them. If visitor announcements are enabled, your speaker or display doesn't announce that someone’s there. Make sure the microphone switch is turned on in the app, or the “Audio recording” setting wouldn't appear. Follow the app instructions for your camera or doorbell below to turn audio recording on or off. Make sure the microphone switch is turned on in the app, or the “Microphone sensitivity” setting wouldn't appear.
But even while using the Nest/Home as a wireless speaker, you may get hit with the weird volume change issue. The Nest/Home, apart from being one of the best AI-enabled Smart home devices available right now, is also a damn good wireless speaker. Apart from the seemingly overwhelming title, the process is quite simple. All you have to do is to unplug the device for a few seconds or minutes and then press and hold the power button or the center button for a few seconds.
Follow the app instructions for your doorbell below to turn Quiet Time on. For example, if the doorbell rings or your dog barks, you can get an alert even if the activity isn’t in your camera’s view. Go to the Google Home’s official support web page and select the “Contact Us” button at the right side of the page. An unresponsive Google Home device may have a minor glitch or a serious hardware issue, and it’s best to let the tech experts guide you. Adjust the volume by swiping the finger right or left.

They will see a notification on their phone that a device is casting with the ability to change the volume or play/pause the casting. Have in mind that this won’t increase or decrease the volume of your timers and alarms. Only your assistant’s voice and played media will be affected. Use the silent button in the Google Home notification in any mobile devices in the same network, as shown below. This will silence Google Home, but not pause the playing.
Set volume level to 0 with any of the 3 methods of adjusting Google Home volumes mentioned above. Please note although Google Home is muted, the playing is NOT paused. You can use voice command of “Hey Google, what’s the volume? This will set Google Home volume to level 0 regardless of the current volume level. So, Google Home will be silenced, but the playing is NOT paused. You can use “Hey Google, continue” to raise the volume to level 1.
This volume adjustment provision is exclusive to the alarms and timers, meaning it doesn't change the normal volume levels of the Nest/Home. If your Google Nest Home is changing volume by itself, reboot the device and check your Bluetooth and internet connection. If the issue persists, turn off the "lower volume when listening" option on the Google Home app. You could also try adjusting the night mode, routines, and alarms on the Google Home app.
Black screens are a result of bugs or errors that may arise after a recent update or due to improper power supply. In extreme cases, the issue may be evident due to a failed/broken backlight panel. Try rebooting or resetting the device as a probable fix. Before starting the procedure, make sure to connect all the speakers to the same network. Then, follow these steps on the Home app.
